MALIBU HONEY began with one backyard beehive in Point Dume, Malibu in 2011. Bruce and Mette Lampcov wanted to keep bees and produce lavender oils. The idea was to plant lavender for the bees and harvest the lavender after the bees foraged. The lavender was a disaster but the bees flourished by flying to the local mountains for their nectar!
The bees foraged from the coastal wildflowers and the mountain sage producing a delicious light honey. We started selling our honey at local events and natural food stores in Malibu. Over time our honey found its way to other parts of Los Angeles and eventually natural food chains such as Whole Foods and Gelson's.
The honey in our jars is exactly the same as the honey in the hive. We want to be sure that all of the local pollens that the bees bring into the hive that are good for you* are there so we do not filter or pasteurize our honey. That is what makes it pure, local and raw. Our honey comes from bees that are foraging in Malibu and also the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains much of which is National Park and Forest lands free from intensive agriculture and the chemical use that goes with it. Malibu Honey tastes great and is good for you!
*Many believe that eating local honey helps fight against pollen allergies.
